Episode #81
Leslie Mandoki is a Hungarian singer, drummer, songwriter, and producer, and is best known for his work with greats like Lionel Richie, Phil Collins, and Chaka Khan, as well as for his work as musical director for Disney’s feature movies including Mulan, Tarzan, and Brother Bear. Running together through a tunnel to escape the iron curtain and communist dictatorship for freedom tends to make for life-long bonds. For the young Hungarian artists, musician Leslie Mandoki and animation artist Gábor Csupo, later the creator of TV classics Rugrats, Aaahh!!! Monster and Duckman, and the original animator for The Simpsons, these bonds have now come to fruition in ways that are the things of dreams. Leslie talked to Mistress Carrie about his childhood and fleeing communism, owning his recording studio, the Mandoki Soulmates and their first US release ‘Utopia for Realists’, freedom, the Beatles, and much more.
Leslie Mandoki plays together with Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull), John Helliwell (Supertramp), Nick van Eede (Cutting Crew), Till Brönner, Al Di Meola, Jesse Siebenberg (Supertramp), Cory Henry, Mike Stern, Randy Brecker, Bill Evans, Richard Bona, Tony Carey, Bobby Kimball (TOTO), Jack Bruce (Cream), David Clayton-Thomas (Blood, Sweat & Tears), Chris Thompson (Manfred Mann´s Earth Band), Steve Bailey, and Julia Mandoki.
